Digital dashboards are a great tool for summarizing data. Since starting my software company, I have found that tracking several key metrics helps keep me focused on my goals. And staying focused is paramount to the success of any startup.

I make business process mapping software that operates within Excel, so not only do I flowchart all my processes in Excel, I also create executive dashboards in it as well.

Quick tip: tone of the coolest, yet little known, tools in Excel is the Camera tool. You have to Customize one of your toolbars to get at it. Basically, it takes a snapshot of a chart or range of cells and updates the snapshot anytime the data within the target changes.

You can create charts, data ranges, and flowcharts on different worksheets and tie them all together in an executive dashboard using the Camera tool. It's great.
